The Square
The Square, a new film by Jehane Noujaim (Control Room. Rafea: Solar ma ma ), talks about the hard realities confronted daily by people attempting to construct Egypt's new democracy. Catapulting us to the actions spread across 2012 and 2011, the film gives a visceral experience of the struggle. Cairo's Tahrir Square is the heart and soul of the film, which follows young activists. Armed with determination values, new tunes, comedy, a large amount of networking, and absolute obstinacy, they are aware that the thorny road to democracy only began with Hosni Mubarek's collapse. The struggle between the state's power and the people is still playing outside.
