A case for two
Ein Fall für zwei is a television series, that originated on September 11, 1981. The set, located in Frankfurt am Main, includes two major characters who solve crimes: a detective and a defense attorney.
A German authorities , josef Matula, has gone into private business. His approach to analysis is powerful and direct, and he even resorts to dirty tricks. The role has been portrayed by claus Theo Gärtner .
In contrast, several times have shifted. The first attorney was Dr. Dieter Renz. Dr. Renz murdered in episode #60 and was replaced by Dr. Rainer Franck. In episode #149,'' Dr. Franck chose work for a law schoolteacher, and was replaced by Dr. Johannes Voss. In episode #182, Dr. Voss was shot dead by an escaping criminal, and was in turn replaced by Dr. Markus Lessing.
A pattern that is very simple is followed by The majority of the episodes. Some one is killed, and the suspect is arrested by the authorities. The defendant, claiming to be innocent, hires the attorney while within the series as his lawyer. The attorney does all the paper work, discussions with the police and attends court. Meanwhile, the Matula does all of the true detective and research work -"makes his hands dirty", as they say. Matula gets into conflicts, and even though he is in his early sixties, the criminals are often knocked out by him. In the end, the first defendant usually happens to be innocent after all, and the actual culprit is seen.
