My Old Lady

Mathias Gold (Kevin Kline) is just a down-on-his-luck New Yorker who inherits a Parisian apartment out of his estranged father. However, when he arrives in France to market the domicile, he is shocked to discover that a renter who is not prepared to budge. His apartment is an viager - an ancient French real estate system with all complex rules related to its resale value - and the feisty Englishwoman Mathilde Girard (Maggie Smith), who has lived at the apartment with her daughter Chloé (Kristin Scott Thomas) for all years, could by contract collect monthly payments out of Mathias until her passing.
