John Ford, the man who invented America

John Ford, the manager who won more Oscars than any other, helped make the legend of the American West within a career that spanned over fifty five decades and almost 150 movies -- Stagecoach (1939), The Grapes of Wrath (1940), The Battle of Midway (1942), The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance (1962), Cheyenne Autumn (1964) -- to name a couple. Bringing America's heritage myths and personalities, dreams and disillusions, he helped invent the legend of the world grabbing the American soul like nobody ever had, or ever will. This picture draws a portrait of this movie maker and is exploring how the many echoes between his works and the turbulence which America is going through.
