To the eve of June 28th, Johan Persson and 2011 Swedish journalists Martin Schibbye put everything at stake by illegally crossing the boundary into Ethiopia from Somalia. On their way, these were finally after months of research, planning and failed attempts to record the ruthless hunt for oil effected the population of the Ogaden region that is isolated and conflict-ridden. They lay captured by the army, shot and injured from the desert sand. But when their first reportage expired, still yet another story began. A story about lawlessness, propaganda and global politics. After a Kafkaesque trial they were sentenced to twenty years in prison because of terrorism. Plus they certainly were far from alone. Their cell-mates were writers, journalists and politicians for not bowing down to dictatorship, persecuted. Their reportage about oil has been turned into a story concerning ink, and also their lives turned into a struggle for survival.
